Family Promise Platform
Skills: Wireframing · Stakeholder Management · Human-Centered Design
Overview
Family Promise helps families experiencing homelessness regain stability through community support.
Our challenge: design a modern, unified platform that simplifies case management, reduces data duplication, and improves collaboration between affiliates.
My Role
Lead UX Designer
I led user research, stakeholder alignment, and end-to-end design for the platform’s first phase — from discovery workshops to interactive prototypes and a scalable design system.
The Problem
Case managers across different affiliates were using disconnected tools and manual processes.
This created:
Redundant data entry
Inconsistent reporting metrics
Poor visibility across sites
The organization needed a system that worked for them, not against them.
Approach
Using Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles, I guided the team through a phased approach:
Discover — Conducted stakeholder interviews and service-mapping workshops.
Define — Identified key friction points across the intake and reporting processes.
Design — Developed wireframes, prototypes, and an accessible dark-mode design system.
Validate — Tested key workflows with case managers to ensure clarity and ease of use.
Phase 1 Highlights
Roadmap
Created a milestone-driven roadmap linking user pain points to design goals and measurable outcomes. Each sprint delivered validated improvements to core workflows.
Design System
Developed a custom Family Promise Style Guide with:
Accessible color palette (optimized for contrast and dark mode)
Modular UI components (buttons, form fields, toggles)
Consistent typography and iconography for brand alignment
Wireframes & Prototypes
Designed core experiences including:
Case Management Dashboard for tracking family progress and actions
Affiliate Portal for cross-site data and reporting
Form Builder for customizable intake and case tracking forms
Outcomes
40% less data duplication through integrated workflows
Standardized reporting across affiliates for grant visibility
90% user satisfaction during pilot usability testing
Next Steps
The next phase focuses on:
Data visualizations to monitor family outcomes
API integrations for reporting automation
Full accessibility and 508 compliance
Impact
This project transformed how Family Promise manages family data — turning fragmented systems into one cohesive, empathetic digital experience that supports both people and process.

Expertise Employee Finder
Skills: Responsive UI Design · Accessibility · Inclusive Design
Overview
The Expertise Employee Finder is an internal CMS tool designed to help staff quickly locate subject-matter experts across divisions.
The project goal: redesign an outdated interface to improve discoverability, streamline search, and meet modern accessibility standards.
My Role
UX/UI Designer
I was responsible for responsive layout design, color-contrast accessibility, and component optimization.
Collaborated with developers and accessibility SMEs to align design tokens and build reusable patterns for web and mobile.
The Problem
The original system had inconsistent styling and poor usability.
Key issues identified through heuristic evaluation and user feedback:
Difficult navigation across screen sizes
Non-compliant color contrast
Redundant search flows and unclear filters
Approach
Using a human-centered, iterative design process:
Audit: Conducted accessibility and responsiveness audits on the current system.
Define: Mapped user journeys for different staff roles (analyst, project manager, admin).
Design: Created flexible grid layouts and accessible color systems.
Test: Validated prototypes with keyboard-only and screen-reader users.
Opportunities & Goals
Build trust and reduce frustration for internal users
Redesign the search experience for speed and clarity
Increase compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards
Create consistent, scalable UI components across breakpoints
Key Design Decisions
1. Color and Accessibility
Switched to high-contrast palette for improved legibility
Implemented consistent hover and focus states
Documented accessible color pairings in the style guide
2. Responsive Layout
Introduced flexible grids for desktop, tablet, and mobile
Prioritized critical information above the fold
Optimized card patterns for small screens
3. Search & Filters
Consolidated filters into an accordion menu
Highlighted key details (name, skill area, availability)
Added visual indicators for verified experts
Components
A new modular component library was built for reusability and future expansion:
Cards (Profile, Project, Skill)
Buttons (Primary, Secondary, Disabled)
Form Inputs (Search, Dropdown, Multi-select)
Pagination & Alerts
These components were tested for screen-reader navigation and color contrast compliance.
Success Metrics
✅ Reduced time-to-find-expert by 30%
✅ Achieved full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance in pilot testing
✅ Improved system usability score (SUS) by 25 points
✅ Increased mobile usage among staff by 40%
Project Results
The redesigned Expertise Finder increased engagement across all user types, allowing staff to find expertise in seconds — not minutes.
The new responsive interface improved confidence, accessibility, and collaboration across teams.
Next Steps
Integrate advanced search with tagging and filtering
Expand design tokens into an internal design system
Continue accessibility testing for ARIA and screen-reader support
Each case study showcases how I approach design problems through research, strategy, and execution. From government data platforms to nonprofit tools, I use human-centered design to translate complex systems into intuitive, inclusive experiences. My work highlights the balance between visual clarity, accessibility, and measurable impact. Showing not just what I designed, but how and why it made a difference.
